I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer in February 2024.
After two rounds of chemo all my hair fell out. I kept telling myself “it is only hair”, but like most women I took pride in my hair. The ladies at Salon FiG had seen me through long hair, short hair, colored hair and natural hair. I called Colleen to let her know as I had no hair I would not be coming to my appointment. Colleen said “let us take care of you”. A wonderful caring young woman, Madeleine, gave me a scalp massage and put on a cooling mask. I felt human again. I was able to keep coming to the salon for this service which gave me the sense of normalcy. Madeline massaged my bare head for months until the hair started to grow back. She is now helping take care of my chemo hair that grows uncontrollably. The ladies of the salon jointly cheered me on, offered encouragement, told me I looked beautiful even when I doubted myself.
I am still undergoing treatment and this week I opted to try the Skin Care Therapy, this is specifically for people with cancer. I was a little nervous at first as I didn’t want a “clinical” experience. I have had to change into one too many hospital gowns. Colleen offered me the choice of changing into a gown or staying in my own clothes. I was sat down and given a full explanation of what was going to happen. Colleen checked for sensitive areas, allergies etc. This gave me a sense of security. The room was warm and inviting with no obnoxious odors.
My skin was extremely dry and the skin care therapy really helped to replace much of the moisture. The salon uses all natural products which my doctor requires I use.
The experience left me feeling like I was glowing. I was very relaxed and for fifty minutes I felt like the woman I was pre diagnosis.
